Welcome to OpenSourceGeomicro

I saw a few other science blogs called Opensource<insert science> so I figured I should start one about OpenSourceGeomicro. Geomicrobiology sits at the interface of geology and biology. If you are in this field you will find yourself working with physicist, mathematicians, geologist, biologist, computer scientists, and the list goes on. The best part is traveling to far flung places to study rocks and bacteria!

This blog will cover a range of topics from: python coding, best practices in lab and field, software, small opensource projects, process of science, and geology!

I’ll get things started in the next post with a small python script for getting the names out of a Newick tree file.
